This comparison allows organizations to make improvements or adapt specific best practices, usually with the aim of increasing some aspect of performance. (Wikipedia)

Benchmarking

In order to develop this comparison, a company must know itself and needs comparison data to be collected by an independent and reliable organization.

In the field of software production, the ISBSG (International Software Benchmarking Standards Group) represents one of the most important international organizations. it deals with industrial and metric data collection as regards the development and functional enhancement maintenance of the software.

Despite the fact that the current data collection process does not consider the Simple Function Points,

it is possible to use the productivity models and statistics included in the ISBSG database, based on IFPUG FP, as they were created by SiFP. In fact, statistical analysis show that IFPUG FP and SiFP match with a negligible error.
